Gatsby's plan to meet Daisy seemed very odd. the book makes it seem as though he has waited many years to see a girl that he was just getting to know before he left for the war. If I was in his position I would just let things stay as they were and let sleeping dogs lie. the most awkward moment I've ever had was a year ago I thought I saw my girlfriend and ran up to her and kissed her but it turned out to be her best friend.

Looking at what once was to be a teenager in the 1920's to what it is now you wonder how people didn't get bored. with so little technology I most likely wouldn't have such insane ADHD and would be able to concentrate for more than 10 minutes. most likely I would just turn into a "reefer addict". but by our standards I would be a part time "stoner". all in all life in the 20's sounds like a hell of a lot of work for a small amount of gain....

Daisy shows her hope to be a fool so she can not see what is truly going on around her in the everyday world. as flatbush zombies put it "I don't give a shit, Why? Cause ignorance is bliss". On average most people feel that if they knew less about the world and what was going on in everyday life they would be happier. all that daisy wants for her daughter is for her to be happy and go through her life unencumbered. I feel that if I didn't think about things so deeply I would be much happier then ever before...

The beginning of the end starts with a smooth slice, and a warm line of rich black blood. To most one single cut would seem like a normal uneventful thing, but in the eyes of a addict it's the most terrifying thing in the world and will soon blossom into the most beautiful romance between a person and their new best friend made of cold steal sharpened to the most beautiful point. The first slice is always the deepest and the sweetest, soon they will cover their entire body with sweet red dripping down their arms bleeding through shirts and staining bed sheets and their favorite shirt.

Daisy, Tom, Jordan,

Daisy, At first glance Daisy seems like a very bubbly spoiled woman with everything right at her fingertips. When a deeper look is taken on her life she is a depressed train wreck with nothing to loose.
Tom, Tom comes off as a self centered asshole that thinks he can do anything and anyone he pleases with out anyone speaking against him.
Jordan, Jordan acts like a slightly secluded yet joyful semi supper star with everything right at the tips of her dainty little fingers. when in actuality she's a sweat girl just looking for answers.

I found this song while playing fallout 3. this song shows that even during the 1920's people produced slow "sad" music that changed peoples mind sets.

Prohibition and Harlem in the jazz age handout

Prohibition Hand out

The author of Prohibition starts off comparing Gatsby's life in long island with prohibition during the same time the book was meant to be placed in. Prohibition was meant to limit availability of alcohol and increase peoples health. as people would soon know Prohibition would soon backfire and start the major growth of violent organized crime in the united states. between 1830-1960 most people thought of liquor stores as places of violence and illegal activate. in the end most people thought that prohibition just withheld peoples fundamental rights.

Harlem in the Jazz age

the African american population exploded between 1910 and 1920. Ralph Ellison was the author of Invisible man, taking us through the life of an educated young man going through a racist world. harlem was the birth place of the Jazz age.

The "school appropriate" example of a party would have to be that a medium to large group of friends got together and drank some "punch" while under the influence of some "medicinal" herbs grown by local "farmers". after the herbs and punch the guests would most likely go for a walk in the forest or just hang around doing nothing all night.

East egg West egg

East egg
The east egg is the upper class haven, and would appear to house the rich and famous. along with the rich and famous lives Gatsby, the wealthy man with all the alcohol. the narator lives right smack dab in the middle of the two.

West egg
the west egg is where all the "normal" or middle class people live. it tends not to have much of a view, but is livable all the same. most think of it as lesser then the east egg
